To activate a Mortgage repayment holiday you should in the first instance contact your mortgage provider. The repayment holidays will in most cases mean that you continue to accrue interest and your total payable will not change. The repayment holidays should not affect your credit score. If you are already behind on your mortgage payments this may affect your ability to activate the repayment holiday. Again, your mortgage provider will be best placed to advise.
The Financial Conduct Authority has said: “Firms should not commence or continue repossession proceedings against customers at this time, given the unprecedented uncertainty and upheaval they face, and government advice on social distancing and self-isolation. “This applies irrespective of the stage that repossession proceedings have reached and to any step taken in pursuit of repossession. Where a possession order has already been obtained, firms should refrain from enforcing it.”
