ALMOND VALLEY MSP SUPPORTS BABY LOSS AWARENESS WEEK

Angela Constance MSP was this week proud to support Baby Loss Awareness Week, which runs from 9th til 15th October, ending in a wave of light at 7pm on 15th where everyone is encouraged to light a candle to remember all babies loved and missed.

Sadly, 4 babies a week are stillborn in Scotland, 15 per day in the UK.   A recent survey highlighted 85% of families would have welcomed psychological support following the loss of their baby.  Sands Lothians is the only charity specialising in Baby Loss counselling, which is open ended and free for families and started a few years ago in St Johns Hospital.  In 2018 SANDS provided 758 counselling sessions to over 50 families (male/female and couples).

It is reassuring to hear of so many families across Scotland being able to receive timely and appropriate support when their baby dies.  Sands Lothian provide a fantastic service to many of my constituents at a very sad time in their lives and deserve our full support."
