Angela Constance MSP for Almond Valley was delighted to be joined by Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Children & Young People during a visit today to the ABC Nursery in Dedridge, Livingston. Visiting the Nursery during Living Wage Week Angela Constance MSP met staff and welcomed the news that the company has gained accreditation.
The company was founded in 2002 and currently employs 12 people. The Nursery is registered for 42 children and 20 children in their After School Club, their aim being to create a homely, friendly and relaxing environment in which young children’s learning can be stimulating.
Ms Constance, who is also a Living Wage employer, said -
“I am delighted that the ABC Nursery has been accredited as a Living Wage employer. I welcome their commitment to demonstrate leadership by paying workers a fair, living wage. Through the Scottish Living Wage accreditation initiative, the Scottish Government is helping ensure peoples basic pay meets the cost of living. As well as the benefits to workers, it also makes sense to employers and I would encourage more businesses in my constituency to consider becoming Living Wage employers. Evidence shows paying the Real Living Wage leads to increased productivity, better morale and lower sickness absence, as is evidenced by the low turnover of staff at the Nursery. It also demonstrates that the organisation is committed to treating its workforce well.”
