Angela Constance MSP has condemned opposition MSPs for misleading press releases that imply that a report on the Children’s Ward at St Johns Hospital by the Royal College of Paediatrics & Children’s Health is recent when in fact it was published in June 2016. The constituency MSP for the hospital said -
“This is exactly the type of pathetic politicking that is a real scunner to parents and staff who want politicians to roll their sleeves up and focus on solutions to get our children’s ward back to a 24’7 services. The comments attributed to the Royal College date back to their 2016 report when they endorsed the need for a 24/7 paediatric service at St John’s, made a number of pragmatic recommendations and gave a view about timescales. This report was widely discussed and reported in 2016 as it contained good news for West Lothian, but also outlined the work to be undertaken, where were the mouthy opposition MSPs then? Meantime progress has been made with additional staff recruitment and increased opening hours. Yes – there is more to do, but it’s time to put our shoulder to the wheel and not be distracted by politicians who have just woken up to a 3 year old report”
