2,230 CHILDREN IN WEST LOTHIAN HIT BY CRUEL UK 2-CHILD LIMIT

Angela Constance MSP for Almond Valley has condemned policies that limit the incomes of thousands of local working families. New analysis using data from the UK Government revealed 2,230 children across West Lothian are impacted by the two-child benefit cap, preventing families from receiving vital financial support.

These findings show more than 20,000 Scottish children into poverty. In sharp contrast the Scottish Government have lifted 90,000 children out of absolute poverty thanks to policies such as the game changing Scottish Child Payment.

“Damaging policies are cutting the incomes of families who are struggling to make ends meet, with 2,230 children in West Lothian affected by the shameful two child limit policy.  The Scottish Parliament backed a motion calling out welfare policies to help families.  Families are suffering like never before – and I will stand up against harmful policies at every opportunity.”
