Angela Constance MSP for Almond Valley along with Fiona Hyslop MSP met with McGill’s Buses last week following the shock announcement that they will withdrawing all commercial bus routes in West Lothian from December. After the meeting Angela said
‘Given the high number of disappointed and distressed constituents, I met with McGill’s as a matter of urgency following their announced exit from West Lothian. Local bus services are essential services that enable local people to get to their work, attend GP and hospital appointments, and to visit and care for family members. From all of my discussions with my constituents and bus providers there are unique needs and challenges in providing a stable bus service that covers a large New Town and West Lothian’s many towns and villages. I have therefore, along with my colleague Fiona Hyslop MSP and other parliamentarians written to the Transport Secretary requesting an urgent meeting. We will also reach out to the local authority as it is in the interest of the people of West Lothian for everyone to work together to leave no stone unturned in finding a lasting solution to the provision of accessible, affordable and reliable bus services the length and breadth of West Lothian’.
