NEW FIGURES SHOW THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT DELIVERING FOR FAMILIES ACROSS ALMOND VALLEY
Angela Constance MSP has welcomed new figures showing that £829 million in financial support has been provided through Social Security Scotland’s five family payments.
This includes the game-changing Scottish Child Payment which supports over 390,000 children, with over £677 million paid since it was launched. New survey responses suggest the payment has helped the majority of recipients buy healthy food for their children, with the application process described as quick and straightforward. Scottish Child Payment is only one part of a wider package of payments – including the three Best Start Grants and Best Start Foods – which together have provided the £829 million in vital financial support.
Angela Constance, MSP for Almond Valley, commented:
“With an approach rooted in dignity, fairness and respect we are supporting families and children across Almond Valley, we are making important progress towards the First Minister’s goal of eradicating child poverty. The Scottish Child Payment is a crucial part of that goal.”
“Alongside the Best Start Grant and Best Start Foods payments, this package of financial support, worth almost £25,000 per child by the time their child turns 16, is key to ensuring that children all across Scotland get the best start to life. Across West Lothian, 12,590 children have benefitted from the Scottish Child Payment, and £5,605,781 has been spent on Best Start Grants and Best Start Foods. Crucially, there is also no cap on the number of children in one family who can receive these payments.”
“These payments will help people raise their families, helping them against the cost of living crisis, and putting money into the pockets of people who need it most.”
