£2,400 Additional Support for Students in Almond Valley

£2,400 Additional Support for Students in Almond Valley

Published date : 19 August, 2024

Scottish Government Committed to Removing Barriers to Further Education

MSP for Almond Valley, Angela Constance, has welcomed the Scottish Government’s announcement of increased financial support for undergraduate students attending universities in Scotland. Starting from the 2024-25 academic year, students from Almond Valley will benefit from an additional £2,400 in their annual support package, raising the total funding available to £11,400 per year.

For the first time, students will also have the option to receive this support over 12 months, allowing them to spread out payments and receive financial assistance throughout the summer. The summer months have traditionally been challenging for students, as their financial support typically ceases. However, the Scottish Government’s new measures will ensure that students are supported year-round.

Commenting on the announcement, MSP Angela Constance said:

“The summer period can be particularly difficult for students who still have bills to pay but no financial support. That’s why the Scottish Government has acted to support students in Almond Valley. Increasing available support by £2,400, bringing it to £11,400 per year, and giving students the option to spread payments over 12 months are vital steps in ensuring that students have the support they need all year round.
Scotland boasts the lowest levels of student debt in the UK, thanks to free tuition and improved financial aid. The Scottish Government is dedicated to removing obstacles to higher education and increasing university accessibility. With a rising number of Almond Valley students applying to universities, such initiatives aim to make further education more inclusive for everyone.”
