Scottish Government Taking Action on Housing Crisis
Angela Constance, MSP for Almond Valley, welcomes the Scottish Government's announcement of £40 million in funding for councils across Scotland. West Lothians allocation of just over £2 million for West Lothian, aimed at increasing the availability of affordable homes.
First Minister John Swinney, in the Programme for Government, committed £600 million to affordable housing for the current financial year. This £40 million allocation will enable the purchase of properties to reduce reliance on temporary accommodation and bring vacant buildings back into use.
Across Scotland, councils have been supported to purchase nearly 1,500 properties in 2023-24 for use as affordable homes. This additional funding will accelerate efforts to ensure families in Almond Valley have a safe and warm place to live.
Commenting on the announcement, Angela Constance said:
"Tackling the housing crisis is a key issue in Almond Valley. One effective solution is to bring empty and vacant buildings back into use. This £40 million fund, introduced by the Scottish Government as part of the £600 million affordable housing budget, builds on the 1,500 properties that were made available for affordable housing last year. Every family in Almond Valley deserves a safe and warm place to call home, and with the Scottish government, are committed to making that a reality."
