Vital Tree Felling and Harvesting Underway in Knightsridge
Angela Constance MSP visit to Knightsridge, to observe the essential tree felling and harvesting efforts led by the Woodland Trust. This initiative addresses the urgent need to manage the woodland area and ensure the safety and sustainability of the environment.
During the visit, Angela Constance MSP experienced first-hand the large number of extremely tall trees, including conifers, Larch, and Sitka Spruce, that are suffering from wind-blow. Some of these trees are dangerously close to residential properties, making the felling and harvesting work critical. The MSP also learned about the impressive community engagement efforts and the exciting plans for local groups and schools to participate in the planting project.
Angela Constance MSP commented on the initiative, stating, "The work being carried out by the Woodland Trust here in Knightsridge is absolutely vital. Not only are we addressing immediate safety concerns, but we are also looking to the future by involving the community and ensuring that the woodland remains sustainable. This project is a shining example of how local action can lead to significant environmental benefits."
The project aims to replace the felled conifers with native broadleaf trees, which will enhance the long-term safety, sustainability, and biodiversity of the woodland area. This change will benefit both people and wildlife, creating a healthier and more resilient ecosystem.
