SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT POLICIES BOOST INCOMES FOR THE MOST VULNERABLE IN ALMOND VALLEY

CONSTANCE REAFFIRMS NECESSITY OF SCOTLAND’S SOCIAL SECURITY SUPPORT

Angela Constance MSP has marked day three of Challenge Poverty Week by highlighting the “transformative impact” of Scotland’s Social Security System, which is built on the principles of dignity, fairness, and respect.

Under the leadership of the Scottish Government, residents of Almond Valley have access to a range of supportive measures, including:

  1. The Scottish Child Payment - Valued at £26.70 per week for eligible children, this payment is instrumental in preventing 60,000 children from falling into poverty this year.
  2. Unique Social Security Payments - Thirteen payments are available from Social Security Scotland, with seven being unique to Scotland. These include five family payments, disability benefits, carers benefits, heating benefits, and more.
  3. A Generous Childcare Package - Recognized as the most generous in the UK, enhancing support for working families.
  4. Fair Work Nation Vision by 2025 - Initiatives are underway to make Scotland a Fair Work Nation, promoting equitable employment practices.

Additionally, the Scottish Government is advancing efforts towards establishing a Minimum Income Guarantee for all Scots. This initiative aims to ensure fair wages, robust public services, and comprehensive benefits for all citizens.

Angela Constance MSP commented, “The Scottish Government is investing £3 billion this year to directly support vulnerable and low-income households who are facing significant financial challenges. For those in Almond Valley, this means access to crucial support systems like the Scottish Child Payment and Carer Support Payment, which help increase incomes during times of economic uncertainty.

While other administrations retract support, the Scottish Government is committed to enhancing incomes and alleviating the impact of adverse policies such as the Bedroom Tax. Our foundational principle is to foster a fairer, more prosperous Almond Valley where everyone can enjoy a high quality of life. We remain dedicated to making this vision a reality.”
