Scottish Government Urges Action on Energy Costs

Angela Constance MSP Highlights Impact of UK Government Policies on Energy Bills

Angela Constance, MSP for Almond Valley, has highlighted rising energy costs and attributed the increase to UK Government policies. Energy bills in Almond Valley have risen by an average of £149. Angela Constance stated, “Scots should not bear the brunt of Westminster's failures.”

The Labour Party's promise to reduce fuel bills has not been fulfilled, leading to a 10% rise in energy prices, adding £149 to the average household bill. This increase is particularly hard on pensioners, many of whom have lost their Winter Fuel Allowance due to UK Government policies.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Government is working with energy companies to introduce a social tariff to reduce energy costs for vulnerable households.

Angela Constance MSP stated:
"Today, households across Almond Valley are feeling the impact of UK Government policies—rising energy bills. These are the same households that have faced years of poor decisions made at Westminster, including cuts to the two-child benefit and the Winter Fuel Payment.

"The UK Government has not kept its promise to the people of Almond Valley, just as they have not for pensioners across Scotland. Now is the time to change course, support the Scottish Government's efforts to introduce a social tariff, and ensure that residents in Almond Valley can afford to heat their homes."

The Scottish Government's commitment to renewable energy is a beacon of hope. Scotland produces a vast amount of energy, showing its capability to meet its own needs and significantly contribute to the UK's energy supply. Despite this, Scots face high energy costs, a situation that must be addressed.
