Scottish Government Supporting Young People from Birth
Angela Constance, MSP for Almond Valley, has welcomed new figures showing that 56,535 baby boxes have been delivered to support expectant parents across NHS Lothian. This initiative is part of a broader effort to provide essential items and support to newborns and their families.
Across Scotland, over 319,800 baby boxes have been distributed, each containing approximately £420 worth of essential items for newborns. This initiative is a testament to the Scottish Government's commitment to ensuring a secure and healthy start to life for every young person in Scotland.
Angela Constance commented, "The delivery of 56,535 baby boxes in NHS Lothian is a remarkable achievement. These boxes provide crucial support for expectant parents, ensuring they have the essentials needed for their newborn's early days."
She added, "The Scottish Government's approach to supporting infants, young people, and their families is showing significantly positive health outcomes. The baby box is a key component of this strategy, contributing to over 300,000 boxes being delivered since the policy's inception. It also plays a vital role in helping keep 100,000 children out of poverty this year."
"The Scottish Government is determined that every child in Scotland should have the best possible start to life. The baby box ensures that every child has the support they need to fulfill their potential and significantly alleviates the financial burden on parents, especially during the current cost of living crisis."
