OVER 178 MILLION FREE BUS JOURNEYS MADE IN SCOTLAND IN 2023/24 - WHILE ENGLANDS ELDERLY WAIT AN ADDITIONAL SIX YEARS FOR FREE BUS PASS
Angela Constance, MSP for Almond Valley, praised the completion of 1,681,832 free bus journeys in the area this year. This achievement is due to the Scottish Government's commitment to free bus passes for those over 60 and individuals with disabilities, as well as free travel for those under 22.
In contrast to England, where pensioners receive free bus passes at age 66, Scotland provides them at 60. The initiative for under-22s, launched in 2022, has significantly helped young people access work and education.
In total, over 178 million free bus journeys have been made across Scotland this year.
Angela Constance MSP remarked, "This milestone highlights the Scottish Government’s dedication to enhancing mobility for our youngest, oldest, and most vulnerable citizens. These free bus passes are vital for accessing services and opportunities. While the UK Labour Government cuts benefits, we continue to support our citizens with free bus travel from age 60 and free passes for youth."
