Significant Financial Support Delivered to West Lothian Families

New Figures Highlight Scottish Government Support to West Lothian Families

Angela Constance MSP is pleased to announce that families in West Lothian have received £6,083,070 in Best Start Grants and Best Start Foods Payments. She remarked, “The Scottish Government’s approach to social security, which focuses on fairness and respect, is truly benefiting families in Almond Valley.”

Social Security Scotland reports that since the introduction of these benefits, £164,448,957 has been distributed throughout Scotland, covering two of the 15 benefits they manage.

In West Lothian alone, £6,083,070 has been distributed from 2018 to June 2024, with 12,620 successful applications.

Angela Constance MSP commented, "The Scottish Government is proud of the unique approach to social security in Scotland. Unlike the DWP, our system is built on dignity, fairness, and respect."

She added, “Despite the constraints of Scotland’s limited parliamentary powers and years of austerity, families in Almond Valley have received £6,083,070 since 2018. This support is making a significant difference in the lives of local children as we aim to eradicate child poverty.”
