CONCERNS RAISED OVER POTENTIAL IMPACT OF REDUCING CHILD POVERTY SUPPORT
Angela Constance MSP has emphasised the importance of maintaining support for children and families in West Lothian, warning that reducing investment in anti-poverty measures could have serious consequences for those most in need.
Support schemes such as the Scottish Child Payment have played a vital role in helping families manage rising costs and reducing child poverty across Scotland.
Angela Constance MSP said:
“Families in West Lothian rely on initiatives like the Scottish Child Payment to make ends meet, and any reduction in this kind of support would be deeply concerning.
“Supporting children and tackling poverty is not just a priority—it’s a necessity. These payments offer stability to families and give children a better start in life.
“We need to continue building on the progress already made, ensuring that those who need help the most are able to access it.”
The Scottish Government has proposed a budget aimed at continuing its focus on providing targeted support for children and families.
