No Cases of Cervical Cancer Detected in Fully Vaccinated People in West Lothian

No Cases of Cervical Cancer Detected in Fully Vaccinated People in West Lothian

Published date : 28 January, 2025

Angela Constance MSP has welcomed news that no cases of cervical cancer have been detected among those in West Lothian who have received the HPV vaccine.

In West Lothian, 67.7% of pupils received the vaccine last year, and there have been no cases of cervical cancer detected in those who are fully vaccinated.

Figures from Public Health Scotland show that no cervical cancer cases have been detected in fully vaccinated women since the immunisation programme began in Scotland in 2008. Angela Constance is therefore highlighting the importance of receiving the vaccine.

Commenting, Angela Constance MSP said:

Across West Lothian and Scotland more broadly, we have made life-saving progress in detecting cervical cancer early and providing preventative treatment. The facts speak for themselves: there have been no cases of cervical cancer detected in those who are fully vaccinated. There can be no doubt about the effectiveness of this preventative healthcare, and I encourage everyone in West Lothian who is offered this vaccine to take it.
