Angela Constance MSP Urges West Lothian Council to Listen to Parents on Nursery Closures
Angela Constance MSP has urged West Lothian Council to listen to parents and carefully consider the impact of potential nursery closures in Almond Valley, following the conclusion of a recent consultation on the issue.
The Council is currently considering the closure of five early learning centres, a move that could have serious consequences for families in the area:
Deans North Nursery School
Fauldhouse Nursery Class
Glenvue Nursery
Ladywell Nursery
Our Lady's Nursery Class, Stoneyburn
Angela Constance MSP said:
“I am deeply concerned about the potential closure of these nurseries and the impact this will have on local families. Parents have consistently raised concerns about early years provision, yet the Council has failed to take their views on board. If these closures proceed, families will have fewer options at a time when they should be benefiting from the Scottish Government’s 1140 hours of funded childcare, which is designed to provide flexibility and support to working parents.”
She also raised concerns that some of the nurseries under review serve communities facing high levels of poverty, where early years support is particularly crucial.
“It is unacceptable for families to bear the brunt of poor planning, and I will continue to hold the Council to account to ensure that the best interests of children and parents come first.”
Angela Constance MSP has encouraged parents affected by the consultation to reach out to her office to share their concerns. Email - angela.constance.msp@parliament.scot
