Scottish Child Payment Benefits Over 12,000 Children in West Lothian

Published date : 10 March, 2025

The Scottish Government’s Scottish Child Payment continues to make a significant impact on families across Scotland. As of 31 December 2024, over 326,000 children under 16 years of age were receiving this essential support, with 12,685 of these children residing in West Lothian. This financial assistance helps families manage the costs of raising children, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and opportunities, fostering a brighter future. With over £1 billion already distributed since its introduction in February 2021, the commitment to combating child poverty continues to empower communities and improve lives.

The Scottish Child Payment aims to provide direct financial support to low-income families. The payment is currently £26.70 per week for each eligible child under 16, offering crucial assistance to families in managing the costs associated with raising children.

Angela Constance, MSP for Almond Valley, commented on the positive impact of the Scottish Child Payment in West Lothian:

“The Scottish Child Payment is a lifeline for many families in our community. By providing this support, the Scottish Government is helping to ensure that children in West Lothian have access to the essentials they need to thrive. This investment not only alleviates financial pressures but also opens up opportunities for our young people, paving the way for a brighter future.”

The Scottish Government remains committed to eradicating child poverty and will continue to invest in programmes like the Scottish Child Payment to support families and build stronger communities across West Lothian and the entire nation.  For more information on the Scottish Child Payment and how to apply, please visit the Scottish Government’s official website: https://www.mygov.scot/scottish-child-payment
